Let’s fix renting: what fair rents can do for you.
There is a serious shortage of affordable housing in the UK. With around 1.7 million people waiting to secure state-subsidised housing, the private rented sector is often the only real housing option for many.
Work by the Resolution Foundation shows 1.3m households on low to middle incomes are spending more than a third of their net income on mortgage payments, rent and maintenance costs – forgoing other essentials such as food to pay their bills. According to housing & homeless charity Shelter, a third of rented homes aren’t even up to a decent standard.
This Brighton event will discuss the crisis in private rented housing and how affordable rents and ethical landlord schemes can make a real difference to people’s lives.
Following the event, we will be establishing a fair/living rent campaign.
