Who should be responsible for local GP services? Public meeting.

Clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) are NHS organisations set up to organise the delivery of NHS services in England. The CCGs replaced the Primary Care Trusts as part of the Health and Social Care Act 2012 – the biggest re-organisation of health services which has led to a rapid increase in privatisation.

More information about CCGs here.

In 2014 the Government asked the new CCGs whether they wished to take on delegated responsibility for the provision of local GP services from NHS England.

At that stage it was decided locally, after discussions with both the public and with local GP practices, that Brighton and Hove CCG would not apply for delegated responsibility at this point.

CCGs who declined at the first stage are being asked again if they wish to apply this year. We want to have another discussion with local patients, carers and the public, which will help inform the decision by local GP practices as to whether to apply for delegated responsibility at this point.

This will be a short public meeting to hear about what delegated commissioning means and to have an open discussion about how we should progress. This is your chance to influence how your local GP service is commissioned.

The meeting is on 25th August, 10 – 11.30 am, at the Brighthelm Centre, North Road, Brighton  (Hanover room).
