What can Rudyard Kipling do for you?
Kipling’s fiction and poetry made him the most famous author in the world, revered, reviled, endlessly quoted. His thumbprint is all over modern culture from Salman Rushdie’s Midnight’s Children to George Martin’s The Game of Thrones. So, why should we read Kipling now?
Professor Harry Ricketts will discuss what reading Kipling has come to mean to him, with the opportunities to dive into the many stories, poems and critical pieces written by Kipling’s hand.
Harry Ricketts, poet, literary critic and Kipling biographer, is Professor of English Literature at Victoria University. His books include an acclaimed biography of Rudyard Kipling ‘The Unforgiving Minute’ (1999) and ‘Strange Meetings, a study of English writers and their intertwining relationships during the First World War.’
