Professor Eric Lott, University of Virginia, has written and lectured widely on US politics and cultural history. He is the author of the award-winning Love and Theft: Blackface Minstrelsy and the American Working Class, from which Bob Dylan took the title for his 2001 album Love and Theft.
He is currently finishing a study of race and culture in the 20th century entitled Tangled Up in
Blue: The Cultural Contradictions of American Racism.
