Labour Party Conference Demonstration
Brighton People’s Assembly, Brighton Disabled People against the Cuts, Brighton Benefits Campaign, Sussex Defend the NHS and others have organised a demonstration outside the Labour Party conference.
At 10am, a huge banner will be unfurled opposite the Brighton centre with the names of all the Labour MPs who voted at the first reading of the cruel Welfare Bill. This Bill launches further vicious attacks on the rights and incomes of people with disabilities.
There will be public reading of all the MPs’ names. The banner will say “48 Labour MPs voted against the Tory Welfare Bill: Thank you! 185 Labour MPs abstained. Have they completely forgotten who they represent?” Those that didn’t vote against the Bill include local MP for Hove Peter Kyle.
With the election of Jeremy Corbyn as Labour Party leader we have a real chance to make our voices heard. Make sure your voice is one of them.
The House of Commons has since passed a £4.4 billion CUT in tax credits. 8 million of the poorest working families will lose well over £1,000 a year.
Defend the NHS Sussex will also be there to unfurl the Roll of Dishonour. This is a list exposing peers and MPs with private healthcare interests who voted to sell off our National Health Service to private companies like Virgin Care and Circle (who disastrously ran the privatised Hinchingbrooke Hospital)
The demo will be from 10-11am and from 12.30pm.
