Introduction to Surveillance

Tutor: Megan Morgan

When: Wednesday 30th Sept from 7-9pm

Where: Online using Zoom (see below for registration details)

This workshop encourages students to discuss the effects of surveillance on our society, to interrogate its history and question its ubiquity. What is surveillance? Where does it come from? How is it administered? Is it good or is it bad? Who benefits from surveillance, and who is oppressed by it? What is self-surveillance? How do we resist surveillance?

These are some of the questions we may ask within the workshop, using a mixtureof group discussions and real-world examples. We will draw on some academic literature but students will be encouraged to apply theories to everyday examples to help understand how surveillance is translated into people’s lives.
