Learn about the environmentally hazardous Fracking industry and it’s development throughout Sussex:

Fracking or Hydraulic Fracturing is a new industrial process used to exploit shale rock formations deep under the ground for the naturally occurring methane stored there.

The industry is widespread in the US & Australia and has had devastating environmental and social consequences.

Fracking involves forcing massive volumes of fresh water, infused with sand and toxic chemicals, deep under the ground at high pressure to fracture shale rock and release the gas stored there. It doesn’t take a genius to grasp the environmental risk posed by this industry; wells fracture and release toxic waste into water aquifers and dangerous green house gases into the atmosphere.

This is the issue faced by communities living near or on gasfields in countries all over the world. Swathes of land are destined to become industrial wasteland, unable to support life because of widespread contamination.

Now, unfortunately, due to the heavy financial sway of the fossil fuel industry in Government, it’s come to the UK too. The industry is already being developed in nearby Balcombe and 57,000 acres of Sussex have been declared as exploration assets for the industry.

Come along and watch some films about the issue with SEER (Sussex Extreme Energy Resistance) and learn about the simple things you can do to get involved.
