What does it mean to be human?

We have just spent a number of weeks highlighting the differences between us.

The young, the old, the rich, the poor, English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, British, French, German, Italian, Greek, European, American, Australian, Asian.

To what purpose?

And what does it tell us about our species?

In an attempt at cooperation after mindless violence and an industrial war of European countries that affected most of the world the EU was formed,

But has it worked?

The UK has decided not.

Do we now concentrate again on what divides us?

Is this an inevitable consequence of human nature?

About Philosophy in Pubs

Philosophy in Pubs (PIP) are a group of people who enjoy discussing their ideas and thoughts and learning from each other. No academic or formal background is necessary only a passion for enquiry.

We meet on the second Sunday of each month, always at the Palmeira pub, Cromwell Road, Hove. Normally around 40 – 50 people attend. Groups consist of no more than 10 people and include a facilitator. The idea is for people to engage in dialogue without the constraints of a meeting agenda.
