In 1938, Mass Observation asked the people of Bolton to respond to the question“What is happiness?”. This November, as part of the ESRC’s Festival of Social Science, the Mass Observation Archive will reflect on this question once again in a series of public events.

Claire Langhamer (University of Sussex) will talk about the meanings of happiness in Mass Observation’s Bolton.
