Resistance and Refuge – the story of Mac Goldsmith

Mac Goldsmith, formerly Mac Goldschmidt, was a prominent and successful automotive engineer in Germany. His success, however, was jeopardised by the rise of the Nazi Party in 19333, when Jewish businesses were liquidated. Mac was acutely aware that his life was in danger. He established contacts in the automotive industry in Britain, who believed he was a valuable asset, before fleeing Germany. This talk will discuss the extraordinary life of Mac Goldsmith and his defiance against the Nazis racial and social oppression. The Goldsmith papers are housed at the Keep.

The talk is by Dr Gerhard Wolf who has published many articles relating to the persecution of German Jews during the Nazi regime. He is a Lecturer in German History at the University of Sussex and is Deputy Director of the Centre for German-Jewish Studies.
