In the popular British imagination, Leon Trotsky is often associated with the most extreme sectarian tendencies in left-wing politics. Yet Trotsky was also a gifted writer who made celebrated contributions to literary theory, social thought and historical analysis.

In recent years, his idea of ‘uneven and combined development’ has been taken up in the field of International Relations.

This lecture will question what is this idea? Why is it being revived? And what – a century after its original formulation – can it tell us about the world we live in today?

This is an open public lecture and everyone is welcome to attend, but we do ask that you book your place as numbers are limited.
