Saturday’s Programme (doors open 10.30am)
11am Dr Seuss’ The Lorax (PG, family friendly film, animation)
Ted yearns for the affection of Audrey, the girl of his dreams. In order to win her heart, Ted sets out on a quest to find a real live Truffala Tree, which is the one thing Audrey wants most in the world—their city of Thneedville is completely artificial with no nature in sight. In order to find a Truffala Tree, Ted must enter the wasteland beyond Thneedville in search of the Once-ler —the only person who can help him.
1pm Schooling the World -The White Man’s Last Burden (65 mins) http://
A challenging, sometimes funny, ultimately deeply troubling look at the role played by modern education in the destruction of the world’s last sustainable indigenous cultures.
3pm Juliette of the Herbs
http://
A lyrical portrait of the life and work of Juliette de Bairacli Levy: herbalist, author, breeder of Afghan hounds, friend of the Gypsies, traveler in search of herbal wisdom and pioneer of holistic veterinary medicine. For more than 70 years Juliette lived with the Gypsies, nomads and peasants of the world, learning the healing arts from these people who live close to nature, and learning from nature herself. .
4pm Herb tea and discussion with herbalist Haskel Adams
5pm The Gleaners & I (78 mins, U, subtitles)
An intimate, picaresque inquiry into French life as lived by the country’s poor and its provident, as well as by the film’s own director, Agnes Varda. The aesthetic, political and moral point of departure for Varda are gleaners, those individuals who pick at already-reaped fields for the odd potato, the leftover turnip.
6.30pm Discussion with Vera Zakharov of Sussex Gleaning Network.
All events are free, but donations are welcome.
