An Introduction to Surveillance
With Megan Morgan
7-9pm on Monday 22 February
This workshop encourages students to discuss the effects of surveillance on our society, to interrogate its history and question its ubiquity. What is surveillance? Where does it come from? Howis it administered? Is it good or is it bad? Who benefits from surveillance and who is oppressed by it? What is self-surveillance? How do we resist surveillance?
Using a mixture of group discussions and real-world examples, we will draw on some academic literature but students will be encouraged to apply theories to everyday examples to help understand how surveillance is translated into people’s lives.
