Suitable for beginners.
In this course we’ll be talking about the science, history, philosophy, and sociology of gender and race. We’ll learn some specialist terminology relating to gender and race, and explore the difference between structural/systematic and accidental/individual features of the social world. We’ll work together to recognise and understand the origins of myths relating to gender and race, and consider some of the bad science that is used to justify racism and sexism. We’ll also discuss some recent case studies, particularly in relation to health. This course is designed to be accessible to beginners, and everyone is welcome.
