This lecture explores two decades of politically engaged, theoretically informed research investigating the complex relationship between education and conflict in a period of increased globalisation, neoliberalism and inequality. The research journey began by studying social movements, knowledge production and popular resistance in Colombia, and expanded to exploring the relationship between education systems and violent conflict in many parts of the world (before, during and after wars). More recently I have returned again to the study of knowledge production in social movements in four different conflict-affected countries: Colombia, South Africa, Turkey and Nepal.
