Do we need a free school in Brighton & Hove?
Join the public consultation with Caroline Lucas MP, local councillors, trade unions and the Academy Trust.
7pm THURSDAY 18TH JUNE AT THE BRIGHTHELM CENTRE
Brighton & Hove City Council has asked the Brighton University Academy Trust to open a free school (a type of academy) in the City.
Yet free schools have been described as the “most socially divisive education experiment” for 60 year. Free schools take away local, democratic oversight and funding from neighbouring schools. YouGov poll found only 25% support for free schools.
If we need a new secondary school, should it be a free school, an academy or should the local authority be lobbying Government, along with others, to let councils open new schools.
Come and find out more about this controversial proposal and have your say.
