Writing the Landscape
Conversation Piece is a regular, relaxed discussion event at Fabrica hosted by artist Lorenza Ippolito. Topics for discussion focus on local history and draw on the themes of the exhibition at the time. Each event welcomes a local speaker with specialist knowledge on a question or theme.
This discussion takes Monika Grzymala’s description of the line as a starting point for thinking about narratives and storytelling:
the line is a continuum, a beginning and end; it can define and limit both poles, move in one, many, and all directions, or combine with other lines. It reveals relationships; it is both simple and complex alike.
When authors construct a narrative line they also have to create a credible continuum, a structure with a beginning, middle and end where relationships develop and a plot can expand. Within the bounds of structure and time writers explore and reflect on the realm of human emotions trying to map out psychological and aesthetic relationships between human beings and their environment.
Join Lorenza and her guest Evlynn Sharp, a performance poet and playwright, to chat about mapping the human landscape with the narrative line.
