“The country is in the grip of a housing shortage. And soaring rents, poor conditions and rising homelessness are the end result” says Shelter, the housing and homeless charity. Their recently published research found that a whopping 80% of housing in the UK is unaffordable for people on average incomes!
But what can we do about it?
Brighton’s Living Rent Campaign and People’s Assembly, have joined forces on this event to explain the  housing crisis and to discuss some practical solutions like private rent caps.
Brighton Living Rent campaign is a new group, campaigning for a better deal for private tenants and new solutions to the housing crisis. We have already begun to take action, with a petition to Brighton & Hove City Council, calling for a range of practical steps such as setting up an ethical landlords scheme and an ethical letting agency.

Empty homes, soaring rents, not enough new council housing, insecure private tenancies…

Speakers include Caroline Lucas MP, Eileen Short (Defend Council Housing), Bill Randall (Chair of Housing, Brighton and Hove City Council and others
Hear from private tenants groups and those affected by the housing crisis.
