Creative Writing for Beginners

A friendly and encouraging course for both new and experienced writers wanting to write prose fiction – no poetry – from novels, short stories and children’s fiction to magazine fiction, run by a critically acclaimed novelist. Taking examples of good practice from published fiction, we’ll look at such aspects as characterization, dialogue, plot, structure, setting and viewpoint, with a brief look at how to approach literary agents and publishers. Based on tutor-set activities and constructive feedback from each other, this course should help you identify what you want to write and how to write it. No equipment or materials will be required. This course aims to be stimulating and useful but also fun!
This 10-week course is organised by the WEA in Brighton. The course is free if you are on certain benefits or on a low wage. Otherwise there is a course fee of £90.
